Meta ads or Google ads: where should your first AED 10,000 go?

Meta finds people who are not looking yet. Google catches the ones who are. How to split a first ad budget in Dubai, with the sums behind it.

Key points

  • Google ads catch people who are already searching for what you sell. Meta ads put you in front of people who are not searching yet.
  • If customers search for your service, put most of a first budget into Google. If they buy with their eyes, put most of it into Meta.
  • A small budget should run a few focused campaigns, not many thin ones, or neither platform gets enough data to improve.
  • Set up tracking before you spend a dirham, and judge both platforms on cost per real enquiry, not cost per click.

Google ads catch people who are already searching for what you sell. Meta ads, on Instagram and Facebook, put you in front of people who are not searching yet. So the answer to “which one first?” depends on a single question: do your customers go looking for you, or do they need to be shown?

If they search, put most of your first AED 10,000 into Google. If they buy with their eyes, put most of it into Meta. The rest of this article explains how to tell, and how to split the money.

A note on the figure: AED 10,000 (about USD 2,700) here means advertising spend, paid directly to the platforms. Management fees are separate.

The difference in one picture

Think of a customer whose handbag strap has just broken.

On Google, she types “handbag repair Dubai”. She has a problem, right now, and she is choosing between whoever appears. You are paying to be in the room at the moment of decision. This is demand you catch.

On Instagram, she is not thinking about handbags at all. She scrolls past a short video of a worn bag being restored. She had not planned to do anything about the scuffed one in her wardrobe, and now she is curious. This is demand you create.

Both reach a lot of people in the UAE. Google handles 93% of searches here, according to StatCounter. Facebook’s advertising reaches about 9.7 million people in the country and Instagram’s about 8 million, according to DataReportal.

Meta ads and Google ads compared

Their state of mind Looking for a solution now Browsing, open to an idea
What the ad is A few lines of text Images, video, catalogues
Best at Capturing existing demand Creating demand and staying remembered

What the benchmarks say

LocaliQ publishes averages from its customers’ campaigns each year. These are international figures in US dollars, not UAE prices, so treat them as a sense of proportion.

2026 average Google search Facebook lead campaigns
Cost per click USD 5.42 USD 1.80
Click-through rate 6.64% 2.70%
Conversion rate 8.18% 8.54%
Cost per lead USD 66.69 USD 27.39

A Meta lead looks less than half the price. That does not make Meta the better buy. A person who searched for your service and then filled in a form is usually closer to paying than someone who tapped an advert while scrolling. The only fair comparison is the cost of an enquiry that turns into a customer, and that is something you can only learn from your own campaigns.

There are no reliable published benchmarks for the UAE alone. Anyone quoting you a guaranteed cost per lead for Dubai is guessing.

Three ways to split AED 10,000

1. People already search for what you do

Clinics, repairs, legal and financial services, property, anything urgent or considered.

  • About AED 7,000 on Google search, on the specific phrases customers use.
  • About AED 3,000 on Meta, mostly to follow up with people who visited your site and did not enquire.

2. People buy with their eyes

Fashion, luxury resale, beauty, restaurants, interiors, gifts.

  • About AED 7,000 on Meta, with strong images and video, catalogue ads and click-to-WhatsApp.
  • About AED 3,000 on Google, for people searching your brand name and specific products.

3. Nobody knows your product exists yet

A new category, a new brand or a new idea.

  • About AED 8,500 on Meta, to explain what it is and why anyone should care.
  • About AED 1,500 on Google, so that people who hear about you and search your name find you and not a competitor.

These are starting points. After a month of real data, the split should follow the results.

Why a small budget must stay focused

Both platforms use machine learning to find the right people, and both need data to do it.

Meta says an ad set usually leaves its “learning phase” after about 50 results in a week. It also says that for a cost-per-result goal, your daily budget should be at least five times that cost. Google suggests judging a campaign over a period that includes at least 30 conversions.

Now do the sums. If a lead costs you AED 100, fifty leads a week is AED 5,000 a week, for one ad set. An AED 10,000 monthly budget cannot feed five ad sets at that rate. Spread thin, every one of them stays stuck in learning and none improves.

So with a first budget:

  • Run one or two campaigns, not six.
  • Ask the platform to find a more frequent action to begin with, such as a WhatsApp conversation started, before aiming at completed sales. Meta recommends exactly this when results are scarce.
  • Leave it alone for a couple of weeks. Every significant edit restarts the learning.

What must be in place before you spend anything

Ads only multiply what is already there. Before the first dirham goes out, check four things.

  1. Tracking. Forms, WhatsApp clicks, calls and bookings should all be recorded, so every enquiry can be traced to the ad behind it.
  2. A fast page to land on. If the page takes five seconds to load on a phone, you are paying for people to leave. See what a website should cost and include.
  3. Someone to answer. An enquiry answered in five minutes is worth far more than one answered tomorrow. We cover this in turning WhatsApp enquiries into a sales pipeline.
  4. A way to follow up. Most people do not buy on the first contact. A simple CRM keeps them from being forgotten.

When to move the money

Review after four to six weeks, and look at the right number.

  • Ignore cost per click on its own. Cheap clicks that never enquire are expensive.
  • Compare cost per real enquiry, and then cost per customer.
  • Move budget gradually, 10% to 20% at a time, towards whichever is producing customers for less.
  • Keep some of both. They work together: Meta makes people aware of you, and Google catches them when they search your name a week later.

How Brnded17 runs it

Brnded17 manages Meta and Google ads together, so the budget moves to wherever it works hardest. For The Boutique, a luxury resale business in Dubai, we run the advertising as a funnel: campaigns that introduce the brand, catalogue and click-to-message ads that put specific pieces in front of the right buyers, retargeting for people who showed interest, and Google search for buyers looking for particular brands.

Because we also build the websites and systems the ads point to, we can follow an enquiry from the ad to the sale. Setup is AED 1,200 to 3,000 and monthly management starts from AED 3,800, with a three-month minimum. You pay the ad spend directly to Meta and Google, so you always see exactly where it went.

If you want help deciding, we offer Meta ads management and Google Ads management in Dubai, and we will tell you honestly which to start with.
